Researchers at IIT Jodhpur are creating a multimodal AI assistant that can process text, images, voice, documents and sensor inputs without needing an internet connection.
IIT Jodhpur has launched a research initiative to build a smart artificial‑intelligence assistant that operates without an internet connection. The project aims to integrate multiple data streams—text, images, voice recordings, documents and sensor outputs—into a single responsive system.
The assistant is being designed to interpret and act on these varied inputs locally, eliminating the need for cloud‑based processing. This offline capability is expected to enhance privacy, reduce latency and make the technology usable in remote or bandwidth‑constrained environments.
If successful, the multimodal AI could find applications in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare and industrial monitoring, where reliable connectivity cannot be guaranteed. The research team plans to demonstrate a functional prototype later this year, marking a significant step toward indigenous, self‑sufficient AI solutions.
