The Indian Air Force has announced a procurement of 24 special utility helicopters to serve as VVIP transport aircraft.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed plans to acquire 24 special utility helicopters dedicated to VVIP transport duties. The procurement aims to enhance the air fleet’s capability to safely and efficiently move high‑profile officials and dignitaries. The new helicopters will replace older models and provide upgraded avionics, comfort and security features tailored for VVIP missions.
Details of the contract, including the manufacturer and cost, have not yet been disclosed. However, the IAF has indicated that the acquisition will be phased to ensure seamless integration into existing operational protocols. The move is part of a broader modernization effort to strengthen India’s strategic mobility and support for national leadership.
Officials said the new fleet will be deployed across key bases, ensuring rapid response and reliable transport for government leaders, defense officials and other VIPs. The IAF remains committed to maintaining high safety standards and operational readiness for all VVIP missions.
The procurement is expected to be completed within the next few years, with the first helicopters slated for deployment by the end of the fiscal year.
