The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has announced a new campaign to ban posters in public areas, aiming to curb visual clutter and improve city aesthetics.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today unveiled a ‘No Posters in Public Spaces’ campaign targeting all public areas across Cyberabad. The initiative, announced during a press briefing, seeks to eliminate unauthorized posters from walls, bus stops, and other civic spaces.
Officials cited rising visual clutter and the proliferation of low‑quality advertisements as key reasons for the move. The city council claims that unchecked posters degrade the aesthetic appeal of urban environments and can impede pedestrian traffic.
Enforcement will involve regular inspections by the GHMC’s civic maintenance wing. Violators may face fines or removal of the offending material by municipal workers. The council has also set up a dedicated hotline for residents to report illegal posters.
While the campaign has received support from local businesses and residents who appreciate cleaner streets, some community groups worry about the impact on small‑scale advertisers. The GHMC assures that legitimate, licensed advertisements will not be affected.
