Police in Shahdol say a husband is suspected of murdering his mother‑in‑law and wife, whose bodies were found five days later in a sealed room after a foul smell was reported.
The bodies of a mother‑in‑law and her daughter‑in‑law were recovered from a locked room in Navagaon, a locality of Shahdol district, about five days after they were reported missing. Neighbours first raised an alarm when a strong odor emanated from the room, prompting police to break the door and discover the decomposing remains.
Police investigations point to the husband of the younger victim as the primary suspect. According to the initial probe, he is believed to have locked the door after committing the killings and then fled the scene, leaving the premises secured.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. The case is being treated as a double homicide, and investigators are gathering forensic evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.
The Shahdol police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the accused, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the need for swift justice.
