The Union Home Secretary conducted a comprehensive review of the preparedness measures in the Himalayan Union Territories and states to mitigate the risks of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and snow avalanches.
During the visit, the secretary met with state officials, disaster management authorities, and local communities to examine existing early warning systems, evacuation plans, and infrastructure resilience.
Preliminary findings indicated that while some regions have upgraded monitoring equipment and established rapid response teams, gaps remain in inter-state coordination and public awareness campaigns.
The Home Ministry will issue a detailed report outlining corrective actions and will seek additional resources to strengthen disaster preparedness across the high-altitude zones.
