The central government has placed Bihar on high alert as flood risks rise, with Home Minister Amit Shah consulting the state’s chief minister and deploying the NDRF.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has moved Bihar into a high‑alert mode after forecasts indicated a heightened risk of flooding across the state. In response, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been mobilised to stand ready for rescue and relief operations.
Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to obtain an on‑ground assessment of the situation and to coordinate the central government's support. He also held a separate conversation with the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to share information on the regional impact of the recent heavy rains.
The alert follows a severe flood event in neighboring Nepal, which has heightened concerns about river overflow and waterlogging in Bihar's low‑lying districts. Authorities are monitoring river levels closely and have urged residents to stay vigilant and follow any evacuation instructions.
State officials have begun pre‑emptive measures, including sandbagging vulnerable areas and preparing relief shelters. The central government has pledged additional resources should the situation deteriorate further.
