The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a plan to increase the proportion of health personnel to over 70% of required strength by March 2027.

The state health department of Himachal Pradesh disclosed its target to achieve a staffing level of more than 70 percent of the sanctioned strength by the end of March 2027. The move comes as part of a broader effort to address chronic shortages of doctors, nurses and allied health workers in the mountainous region.

Officials said the plan will involve accelerated recruitment drives, faster processing of vacancies and incentives to retain existing staff in remote districts. The government will also allocate additional budgetary resources to support training and capacity‑building programmes.

The health ministry has set quarterly milestones to monitor progress and will publish periodic updates. If successful, the increased workforce is expected to improve service delivery in primary health centres and district hospitals across the state.

Stakeholders, including medical associations, have welcomed the initiative but urged the administration to ensure transparent selection and adequate infrastructure to match the larger staff complement.

The target aligns with national health guidelines that recommend states maintain at least 70 percent staffing of sanctioned posts to deliver essential health services effectively.
