The Himachal government announced plans to increase the number of operation theatres across its medical colleges to boost surgical capacity.
The state government of Himachal Pradesh has unveiled a plan to expand surgical infrastructure by constructing additional operation theatres in its medical colleges. The initiative aims to address the growing demand for surgical services and improve the overall quality of healthcare delivery in the region.
Under the proposal, each of the state's medical colleges will receive new theatre blocks, raising the total number of operating rooms by several dozen. Funding for the project is slated to come from the state health budget, with construction expected to commence in the next financial year and completion targeted within two years.
Officials anticipate that the expanded facilities will reduce patient wait times, enable more complex procedures to be performed locally, and provide medical students with greater hands‑on training opportunities. The move also aligns with national objectives to strengthen tertiary care capacity in underserved areas.
The plan is part of a broader effort by the Himachal health department to modernise hospital infrastructure and enhance the state's readiness for emergencies and routine surgical care.
