Himachal Pradesh has been formally honoured after attaining 100% literacy, marking a historic educational milestone for the state.

The state of Himachal Pradesh was presented with a national award on Thursday in New Delhi, recognizing its achievement of complete literacy across all districts. The honor was conferred by the Ministry of Education as part of its annual commendation ceremony for states that meet the 100% literacy benchmark.

According to the latest government data, Himachal Pradesh has succeeded in ensuring that every adult resident can read and write, a goal that had eluded many other regions. Education officials attribute the success to sustained school enrollment drives, adult learning programs, and robust monitoring mechanisms implemented over the past decade.

State officials welcomed the recognition, stating that the milestone reflects the collective effort of teachers, NGOs, and community members. They also emphasized that the focus will now shift to improving the quality of education and expanding skill‑development initiatives to sustain the gains.
