The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has elected Congress candidate Anurag Sharma to the Rajya Sabha, marking a significant shift in the state's representation at the national level.
On Tuesday, the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elected Congress candidate Anurag Sharma to the Rajya Sabha, filling one of the state's two seats in the upper house.
The election was conducted using the single‑transferable‑vote system, a method that has been used in Himachal Pradesh for several years to allocate Rajya Sabha seats proportionally.
Sharma, a veteran Congress leader with decades of experience in state politics, will join the national legislature to represent Himachal Pradesh alongside the incumbent BJP‑aligned member.
The decision is viewed as a strategic win for the Congress party, which has been seeking to regain influence in the state after its defeat in the 2022 assembly elections.
