The Himachal Pradesh government has signed a lease for nearly 70 acres in Palampur to expand IIT Mandi with a new campus.

The state of Himachal Pradesh has entered into a lease agreement covering almost 70 acres of land in the hill town of Palampur, according to EdexLive. The parcel will be used to set up an additional campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, extending the institute’s footprint within the state.

The new IIT Mandi campus is expected to provide expanded facilities for engineering and research education, complementing the institute’s existing infrastructure. By situating the campus in Palampur, the government aims to enhance access to premier technical education for students from the region.

State officials described the lease as a strategic step toward strengthening higher‑education infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, signalling continued investment in the sector.
