The Himachal Pradesh government will now serve eggs and seasonal fruits in school mid‑day meals twice a week to boost nutrition.
The Himachal Pradesh state administration announced that, starting this month, eggs and locally sourced fruits will be added to the mid‑day meal scheme for government schools twice a week. The move is part of the state's effort to enhance the nutritional value of the meals provided under the national Mid‑Day Meal Programme.
Under the new schedule, each participating school will serve a boiled egg and a portion of fresh fruit on two designated days every week, supplementing the regular rice‑dal menu. Officials say the addition aims to address protein and micronutrient deficiencies among primary‑school children, especially in remote and tribal areas.
Education Minister Raghubir Singh said the initiative will be rolled out in phases, with pilot districts receiving supplies from the state food‑grain corporation. The department will monitor attendance and health indicators to assess impact before expanding the scheme statewide.
