The Himachal Pradesh government has cleared a new nutrition policy aimed at improving the health of women, children and other vulnerable sections of society.
The state cabinet of Himachal Pradesh gave its nod to a comprehensive nutrition policy, as announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The policy is designed to address malnutrition and dietary deficiencies among women, children and other vulnerable groups across the state. It outlines measures such as fortified food distribution, nutrition awareness campaigns, and targeted supplementation programs.
Implementation will be coordinated through the state's health and welfare departments, with a focus on rural and remote areas where nutritional gaps are most pronounced. The government plans to monitor progress through regular health surveys and data collection, ensuring that interventions reach those most in need.
Officials said the policy aligns with national nutrition goals and will leverage existing schemes like the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and the National Nutrition Mission. Funding is expected to come from both state allocations and central government support, aiming for a sustainable impact on public health.
