Former Himachal chief minister Jairam Thakur has charged the Sukhu administration with taking credit for the state’s three‑decade struggle over Bhakra Beas Management Board power rights and has called for the restoration of 15 units of free electricity.
Jairam Thakur, a former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, publicly accused the current Sukhu government of appropriating credit for the resolution of a long‑standing dispute over power allocation from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). The BBMB power rights issue, which the state has pursued for roughly three decades, involved negotiations and legal battles to secure a share of hydroelectric generation for Himachal. Thakur said the Sukhu administration should not claim the achievement as its own and urged the government to reinstate the supply of 15 units of free electricity that had been withdrawn earlier. The Sukhu government has not yet responded to the allegations, and officials indicated any decision on free‑power allocations would be taken after reviewing the state’s fiscal position.
