The Himachal High Court has granted parole to a convicted murder‑dacoity offender, stating that his Nepal citizenship does not bar the decision.

The Himachal High Court in Shimla has approved a parole application for a convicted murder‑dacoity offender who holds Nepal citizenship. In its order, the court emphasized that foreign citizenship does not constitute a legal impediment to granting parole.

The convict, who has been serving a life sentence for a murder and dacoity case, had applied for parole after completing a significant portion of his sentence. The court reviewed the application and found that the conditions for parole were met, including good conduct and the absence of any threat to public safety.

Parole in India allows a prisoner to be released on specified conditions, such as regular reporting to authorities and adherence to a curfew. The court’s decision is expected to be followed by a parole board that will oversee the offender’s compliance with the terms of release.
