The Himachal Pradesh High Court has identified 55 violations of forest‑road regulations in Seraj and ordered an immediate halt to ongoing construction and tarring activities.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court, sitting in Shimla, issued a detailed order after a petition highlighted irregularities in forest‑road work in the Seraj area of Mandi district. The court’s findings list 55 distinct breaches of the Forest Conservation Act and related state regulations, ranging from unauthorized widening of forest tracks to the use of heavy machinery without clearance.

According to the judgment, the violations compromise the ecological balance of the region, threatening native flora and increasing the risk of landslides during monsoon periods. The court noted that the ongoing tarring and construction activities were proceeding without the mandatory environmental impact assessment and without the consent of the forest department.

In response, the court directed the district administration to stop all construction and tarring work immediately, order the removal of any illegal structures, and restore the affected forest‑road sections to their original condition. A compliance report is to be submitted within 30 days, after which the court will review the situation for further action.
