The Director General of Police has instructed senior superintendents in Himachal Pradesh to take all measures for a peaceful, accident‑free Diwali festival.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Himachal Pradesh issued a circular to all senior superintendents of police (SPs) ahead of the upcoming Diwali festival. The directive emphasizes heightened vigilance, strict enforcement of traffic rules, and rapid response to any untoward incidents. Police personnel have been asked to coordinate with local municipal bodies, fire services and health officials to manage crowds, control fireworks, and ensure that public spaces remain safe. The DGP also urged community leaders and residents to cooperate with law‑enforcement agencies, avoid illegal firecracker use and report any suspicious activity immediately. The aim is to allow citizens to celebrate the festival of lights without fear of accidents or disturbances.
The instruction comes at a time when several states have reported a rise in firecracker‑related injuries and traffic accidents during the festive period. Himachal authorities plan to deploy additional patrols on major highways and in popular tourist spots such as Shimla, Kullu and Dharamshala. Checkpoints will be set up to monitor the sale and use of prohibited fireworks, and a helpline will be operational for emergency reporting.
Officials said that compliance will be closely monitored and any lapses will attract strict action under existing law. The DGP assured the public that the police force is fully prepared to maintain order and safety throughout the Diwali celebrations.
