Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the state will not allow chitta sellers to operate, promising strict enforcement against illegal money‑lending activities.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu publicly declared that the state will not tolerate the presence of chitta sellers, a term commonly used for illegal money‑lending agents. In a statement delivered in Shimla, he emphasized that such activities undermine financial stability and exploit vulnerable citizens.

Sukhu assured that law‑enforcement agencies will be directed to intensify monitoring and take swift action against anyone found operating as a chitta seller. He also called for cooperation from local communities to report suspicious lending practices.

The chief minister’s remarks come amid growing concerns across northern India about unregulated credit schemes that charge exorbitant interest rates. Himachal’s administration has pledged to strengthen regulatory oversight and coordinate with the state police to curb the menace.

While no specific arrests were announced, officials indicated that investigations are already underway in several districts. Sukhu urged the public to rely on formal banking channels for credit needs and warned that violators will face stringent penalties.
