In a recent ruling, the High Court dismissed the villagers' request for an overbridge at a railway crossing in Jharkhand, but imposed a four‑month deadline for the railway authorities to propose an alternative solution.

The Jharkhand High Court in Ranchi has rejected a petition filed by residents of a rural block demanding the construction of an overbridge at a busy railway crossing. The petition cited frequent accidents and traffic congestion as reasons for the request.

In its judgment, the court noted that the petition did not provide sufficient evidence of an imminent danger and that the railway had already taken measures such as installing warning signals and imposing speed limits to improve safety at the site.

Nonetheless, the court directed the railway authorities to submit a detailed plan within four months to address the safety concerns raised by the villagers. The authorities were also instructed to keep the local community informed about any proposed measures.

The decision comes after several incidents at the crossing, and local leaders have urged the state government to expedite the construction of an overbridge to prevent future accidents.
