A rescue mission in Shajapur’s Shujalpur area, involving 14 South African experts, has relocated 97 chital using helicopters and boma technique, with 200 staff deployed and the operation slated to continue until October 31.
Shajapur district’s Shujalpur region launched a focused rescue drive after reports that chital (spotted deer) were damaging crops. Fourteen specialists from South Africa were brought in to assist local wildlife officials, employing both helicopter airlifts and the traditional boma enclosure method to herd the animals into a protected zone.
The operation successfully moved ninety‑seven chital to a safe area away from farmlands, mitigating further loss for farmers. A team of two hundred personnel, including forest department staff and the foreign experts, coordinated the effort over several days.
Authorities have announced that the campaign will remain active until October 31, ensuring any remaining deer are safely relocated and monitoring continues to prevent future crop incursions.
