A helicopter carrying Ecuador’s intelligence chief, his wife and five Americans crashed near Samburu County, killing all aboard, authorities said.
A helicopter operating over Kenya’s Samburu County crashed on Tuesday, killing all seven people on board, including Ecuador’s intelligence chief, his wife and five American nationals.
The aircraft was reported to be flying from the Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area when it went down, according to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
Ecuadorian officials confirmed that the intelligence chief and his wife were among the victims, while the identities of the five Americans were later released by the U.S. embassy.
Kenyan authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, and rescue teams are searching the remote area for any survivors, though none have been found.
