Fresh snow has settled over the holy town of Badrinath, while the wider Uttarakhand region experiences a sharp fall in temperatures, officials said.
Fresh snowfall has blanketed the pilgrimage town of Badrinath in the Chamoli district, covering the temple precincts and surrounding slopes with a fresh white layer. Local authorities confirmed that the snowfall began early on Thursday and continued through the night, creating picturesque scenes around the sacred site.
Meteorological officials reported a rapid drop in temperatures across Uttarakhand, with night-time lows falling sharply compared with the previous day. The cooling trend is attributed to a cold front moving down from the Himalayas, intensifying the chill in the higher reaches of the state.
The state disaster management team has issued advisories urging pilgrims and tourists to dress warmly and to exercise caution while traveling on mountain roads, which may become slippery. Temporary shelters have been readied at key points in Badrinath to accommodate visitors affected by the sudden weather change.
