Heavy rainfall and strong winds have battered the Gwalior-Chambal region, causing a significant drop in daytime temperatures across Madhya Pradesh.
Heavy showers have been pounding the Gwalior-Chambal belt since early morning, with wind speeds reaching up to 70 km/h in some pockets. The sudden downpour has led to a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures, with readings falling 5 to 7 degrees Celsius below the usual range for this time of year.
Meteorological officials warned residents to stay indoors and secure loose objects, as the combination of rain and wind poses a risk of flooding and property damage. Local authorities have set up temporary shelters in affected villages and urged commuters to avoid traveling on major highways.
The weather alert is part of a broader monsoon pattern that has been affecting central India, with several districts reporting similar conditions. While the rains are expected to ease by evening, officials advise continued vigilance as the storm system moves westward.
Residents in Gwalior and surrounding districts have reported waterlogging in low-lying areas, and several schools have been closed to prevent accidents. The state’s disaster management cell has dispatched teams to monitor the situation and provide assistance where needed.
As the storm subsides, officials anticipate a gradual return to normal temperatures, but they caution that sporadic showers may persist until the monsoon settles.
