An active weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain to 17 districts of eastern Madhya Pradesh on October 29, just before the Karwa Chauth festival.
The meteorological department has issued a heavy‑to‑very‑heavy rain warning for seventeen districts in the eastern part of Madhya Pradesh on October 29. The alert is linked to an active weather system currently developing over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to move north‑westward and affect the region.
The warning covers districts such as Jabalpur, Shahdol, Anuppur and others that lie in the rain‑prone belt of the state. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert, avoid non‑essential travel and secure outdoor belongings that could be damaged by strong downpours.
The timing coincides with the Hindu festival of Karwa Chauth, when many women observe a fast and look for a clear view of the moon at night. Officials said the cloud cover could obscure the moon, potentially affecting traditional rituals, but safety remains the priority.
Local disaster management teams are on standby, ready to deploy relief measures if flooding or water‑logging occurs. Citizens are urged to follow updates from official channels and heed any further advisories.
The forecast does not indicate any immediate threat of cyclonic winds, but the intensity of rainfall could lead to localized flooding, especially in low‑lying areas and near rivers.
