Intense monsoon showers have led to weather alerts across 24 districts of Rajasthan, with Jhalawar receiving a record 282 mm of rain and authorities opening dam gates as a precaution.
The state’s meteorological department issued weather alerts for 24 districts of Rajasthan after a prolonged spell of heavy rain. The downpour, described as one of the most intense in recent years, prompted officials to advise residents to stay alert and avoid low‑lying areas.
In the southern district of Jhalawar, rain gauges recorded 282 millimetres of precipitation within a short period, a figure that far exceeds the normal monthly average. The excessive water accumulation raised concerns about rising reservoir levels.
To mitigate the risk of flooding downstream, authorities opened the gates of several dams in the region, allowing excess water to flow safely. The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Water Resources Department, which continues to monitor water levels across the state.
Local administration has urged citizens to cooperate with rescue teams, refrain from entering water‑logged zones, and follow any further instructions issued by disaster management agencies.
