Heavy rainfall in Mizoram has forced the suspension of services on the Bairabi‑Sairang rail section, causing delays for passengers.
Heavy rain swept across Mizoram on Monday, inundating the Bairabi‑Sairang railway corridor and prompting railway officials to halt train movements on the section. The downpour caused waterlogging on the tracks, making it unsafe for locomotives to operate.
The North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) issued an advisory that all passenger and freight services between Bairabi and Sairang would be suspended until conditions improve. Engineers were dispatched to assess the damage and clear any debris, with a tentative resumption time yet to be confirmed.
Commuters traveling to Aizawl and other destinations were advised to seek alternative transport, as the disruption is expected to affect hundreds of passengers daily. The railway authority is monitoring weather updates closely and will restore services as soon as the tracks are deemed safe.
