The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain for eight districts in Tamil Nadu today, while Chennai will experience cloudy conditions with light showers.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected heavy rainfall across eight districts of Tamil Nadu for today. Meteorologists attribute the system to a deepening low-pressure area moving westward over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify precipitation in the affected regions.

Residents of the eight districts are advised to stay alert as the downpours could lead to waterlogging and localized flooding, especially in low‑lying areas. Local authorities have been instructed to monitor drainage networks and be ready to deploy emergency response teams if needed.

In the state capital, Chennai, the sky will remain overcast with intermittent light showers throughout the day. While the showers are not expected to be severe, they may cause brief disruptions to traffic and outdoor activities.

The IMD has recommended that commuters in Chennai and the rain‑hit districts exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during peak downpour periods, and follow any advisories issued by local disaster management agencies.
