Continuous downpour has inundated the Durgapuri tribal hamlet in Shivpuri’s Mohanagar gram panchayat, leaving roads water‑logged and a local school surrounded by floodwater.
The tribal settlement of Durgapuri, located in the Bechi Mohanagar village of Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, was hit hard by relentless rain on Tuesday. Water accumulated across the hamlet due to the absence of proper road and drainage infrastructure, turning many streets into temporary streams.
The rising water level surrounded the local school on all sides, forcing classes to be suspended and prompting concerns for the safety of children and teachers. Residents reported that the lack of drainage channels exacerbated the flooding, with water pooling in low‑lying areas and hindering movement.
In response, villagers trekked to the district collectorate to seek immediate relief and assistance. Local officials acknowledged the situation and indicated that emergency measures, including temporary shelters and water‑pumping equipment, would be deployed.
Authorities have urged higher‑level agencies to expedite the provision of permanent drainage solutions to prevent similar incidents during the monsoon season.
