The Gopte Gopadavari cave in Chitrakoot, Satna district, has been severely affected by continuous heavy rainfall, which has increased water seepage into the layered rock formations.
The rising water has created gaps in the strata, causing stones to fall and damaging the central Shiv statue as well as the steps that visitors use to access the shrine.
In response to the structural instability, local authorities have closed the cave to the public and called in experts to assess the extent of the damage and determine necessary repairs.
The closure is intended to prevent further accidents while conservation teams work to stabilize the site and restore the damaged artifacts.
