The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy‑rain warning for 16 districts of Tamil Nadu as continuous downpours disrupt daily activities and cause waterlogging.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy‑rain alert covering 16 districts of Tamil Nadu, citing persistent monsoon activity that has intensified over the past 24 hours.
The warning spans districts such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem and others, where waterlogging has been reported on roads, low‑lying areas and public transport routes, disrupting normal commuting.
Local authorities have mobilised emergency response teams, cleared drainage channels and advised residents to avoid non‑essential travel, keep windows closed and stay updated via official bulletins.
The IMD warned that rainfall intensity could reach 50‑70 mm per hour in some pockets, raising the risk of flash floods, especially in river basins and coastal zones.
Citizens are urged to follow safety guidelines, cooperate with relief operations and report any flooding incidents to the nearest police or disaster‑management office.
