A deluge hit Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali on Tuesday morning, leading to waterlogged roads and severe traffic congestion.
Heavy rainfall began early Tuesday morning, affecting the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the adjoining districts of Panchkula and Mohali in Haryana. The downpour caused several streets to flood, with water levels reaching up to a foot in some areas.
The sudden waterlogging disrupted normal traffic flow, turning major arteries such as the Chandigarh–Mohali Expressway and the Panchkula–Chandigarh road into congested bottlenecks. Vehicles stalled, and commuters were forced to wait for hours before the traffic could resume.
Traffic police and local authorities deployed additional patrols and set up temporary traffic signals to manage the flow. They also cleared debris from the most affected lanes, but the volume of vehicles and the depth of water made the situation challenging.
Commuters were advised to avoid non-essential travel, use alternate routes, and stay updated with local news for real‑time traffic updates.
