Commuters on Delhi’s newly opened Barapulla Elevated Road Phase‑3 face up to an hour’s delay over a 3.5‑km stretch during peak hours.
After eleven years of construction, Delhi’s Barapulla Elevated Road Phase‑3 was inaugurated to ease traffic in the capital. The new corridor, spanning 3.5 kilometres, was expected to cut travel time dramatically for commuters heading north‑west.
However, during the morning peak, the stretch has turned into a bottleneck. A distance that should take about five minutes now stretches to nearly an hour of stop‑and‑go traffic, according to observations on the ground.
The prolonged congestion is affecting daily commuters, public transport operators and freight vehicles alike, forcing many to seek alternative routes or delay their journeys. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the cause, but the volume of vehicles during rush hour appears to be overwhelming the freshly opened infrastructure.
