From today, fuel stations in Haryana's NCR districts will not dispense petrol or diesel unless motorists present a current vehicle pollution (PUC) certificate, officials said.
The Haryana government has ordered fuel outlets in the National Capital Region districts to check for a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate before selling any fuel. The directive, issued by the state's transport department, aims to curb vehicular emissions and enforce existing environmental regulations.
Station owners are required to verify the certificate at the pump and refuse service if the document is missing or expired. Non‑compliance could attract penalties, including fines and possible suspension of the outlet's license.
Transport officials said the move is part of a broader effort to improve air quality in the region, which has struggled with high pollution levels. The enforcement will begin immediately, with spot checks planned across major fuel stations in districts such as Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat.
Motorists are advised to ensure their PUC certificates are up to date to avoid inconvenience at the pump. The department will also run an awareness campaign to inform the public about the new requirement.
