The Haryana government has announced that women will be allowed to travel free of charge on state‑run buses on Raksha Bandhan, aiming to ease sister‑brother celebrations across the state.
The Haryana administration issued a notice that all women will be permitted to board state‑run buses without paying a fare on Raksha Bandhan. The decision, announced by the transport department, is intended to support families travelling for the traditional festival, when sisters often journey to their brothers' homes.
Under the scheme, the fare exemption will apply to regular and inter‑city services operated by Haryana Roadways on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Passengers will be required to present a valid identity document to avail the benefit.
Officials said the move aligns with the government's broader effort to promote gender‑friendly transport policies and to ensure safe, affordable mobility during major cultural occasions.
