The Haryana government has announced stricter punishments for illegal tree felling and mandated compensatory plantation to curb deforestation.
The state cabinet of Haryana approved a revised set of penalties aimed at deterring illegal tree felling. Under the new rules, fines will be increased and jail terms extended for those caught cutting trees without permission. The policy also requires offenders to plant a specified number of saplings as compensation for the loss of green cover. Officials said the measures are intended to protect the state's forest resources and help meet national afforestation targets. The Forest Department will monitor compliance and take action against violations, according to a statement released by the government.
