The Haryana police have identified and flagged a resident for producing an AI‑generated video that targeted a police officer, raising concerns over misuse of deep‑fake technology.
Haryana police announced that they have flagged a local man after discovering an artificial‑intelligence generated video that singled out a serving police officer. The video, shared on social media platforms, used deep‑fake techniques to portray the officer in a compromising scenario, prompting the police to intervene.
The investigation revealed that the individual employed readily available AI tools to manipulate the officer's likeness without consent. Authorities noted that the content was deliberately crafted to target the officer, violating both privacy norms and the integrity of law‑enforcement personnel.
Police officials have not disclosed the suspect's name but confirmed that a formal case has been opened under existing cyber‑crime statutes. They warned that the misuse of AI for harassment will attract stringent legal action.
The incident underscores growing concerns among Indian law‑enforcement agencies about the rapid spread of deep‑fake technology and its potential to fuel defamation and intimidation. Officials have urged the public to report similar content and are coordinating with technology platforms to curb its distribution.
The case remains under active investigation, and further details will be released as the probe progresses.
