The Haryana government has issued an order to implement pollution‑control measures across the National Capital Region before the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is triggered.

New Delhi – The Haryana administration announced on Tuesday that it will enforce a set of pre‑emptive pollution‑control actions across the National Capital Region (NCR) before the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) comes into effect. The decision follows a series of air‑quality alerts that have seen pollutant levels rise sharply during the winter months.

The order directs state agencies to curb construction dust, limit vehicular emissions, and impose temporary restrictions on certain industrial activities in NCR districts that fall under Haryana’s jurisdiction, such as Gurgaon and Faridabad. Officials also said they will coordinate with the Delhi government and neighboring states to ensure a uniform approach.

Implementation is slated to begin within 48 hours, with periodic monitoring to assess compliance. Authorities expect the early measures to reduce particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations by a noticeable margin, buying time before the more stringent GRAP protocols are activated.

The move underscores Haryana’s proactive stance on air‑quality management and reflects growing pressure on regional governments to address the recurring smog problem that affects millions of residents in the capital region.

Environmental experts have welcomed the step, noting that early intervention can mitigate health risks and lessen the economic impact of severe pollution episodes.
