The Haryana government has placed all mental health facilities under a new six‑category regulatory system to standardize care and oversight.

The state of Haryana announced that every mental health institution will now operate under a newly devised six‑category regulatory framework. The move, disclosed by the health department, aims to bring uniform standards across hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, community care units, research facilities and training institutes dealing with mental health.

Under the framework, each category will have specific licensing criteria, staffing norms, infrastructure requirements and periodic audit mechanisms. The government said the classification will help regulators monitor service quality, ensure patient safety and promote accountability among providers.

Implementation is expected to begin within the next quarter, with existing facilities given a transition period to meet the new standards. Authorities will conduct inspections and issue compliance certificates, while non‑conforming institutions may face penalties or revocation of licenses.
