Haryana Imposes Crores in Pollution Fines, Files Prosecutions, Recovery Lagging

Haryana’s pollution authorities have levied fines worth several crores of rupees on violators and initiated prosecutions. Yet, reports indicate that recovering the imposed amounts remains a major challenge.
The Haryana State Pollution Control Board has slapped fines amounting to several crores of rupees on industries, vehicles and other sources found violating air and water quality norms.
In tandem with the monetary penalties, the board has filed criminal prosecutions against repeat offenders and those responsible for severe environmental damage.
Reports indicate that the recovery of the imposed sums has been slow, with only a fraction of the total dues collected so far.
The enforcement wing says it is pursuing legal avenues to realise the outstanding amounts, but the process continues to face procedural and practical delays.
