Gurugram Voters at Risk: 1 in 3 May Disappear from Electoral Rolls Under SIR Process

Under Haryana’s Statewise Identification Reconciliation (SIR) process, a study suggests that nearly one-third of Gurugram voters could be removed from the electoral rolls.

The Statewise Identification Reconciliation (SIR) process, recently rolled out in Haryana, aims to streamline voter data across districts. A new analysis indicates that almost 33% of voters in Gurugram could be deleted from the electoral rolls under this scheme. The removals would occur if records are found duplicate, outdated or lacking a valid address. Experts warn that such a purge could disenfranchise a significant portion of the city’s electorate. The Election Commission has said it will provide a grace period for voters to verify and correct their details before final deletion.
