Gujarat Police Restructure Units, Adopt New Tactics in Drug Crackdown

Gujarat’s law‑enforcement agencies are stepping up their fight against narcotics after a recent surge in drug‑related incidents across the state. In a formal briefing, senior police officials outlined a comprehensive reshuffle of the existing anti‑drug units, aiming to streamline command structures and improve operational efficiency.

The reorganisation will see the creation of a dedicated task force that will integrate intelligence, field operations and forensic analysis under a single command. Officials also indicated that the force will employ newer investigative methods, including advanced data analytics and enhanced surveillance tools, to track supply chains and dismantle trafficking networks.

Police leadership said the changes are intended to boost coordination among agencies, accelerate seizure processes and reduce the time taken to bring offenders to trial. The new structure is slated to become operational within the next few weeks, with periodic reviews planned to assess its impact on curbing drug crime in Gujarat.
