Gujarat police have taken a suspect into custody following allegations that he sexually assaulted a minor and used compromising photographs to extort valuables worth roughly Rs 46 lakh. The arrest was made after the victim’s family reported the crime to local authorities, prompting a swift investigation.
The investigation revealed that the accused obtained intimate images of the child and threatened to circulate them unless the family handed over cash, jewelry and other assets. The total value of the demanded items was estimated at Rs 46 lakh.
Police officials said the case is being treated as a serious offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The suspect has been produced before a magistrate, and further legal proceedings are underway.
