Police in Dahod, Gujarat, have detained Shailesh Kumar Mishra of Buxar, Bihar, for allegedly running a fake app that lured victims with promises of stock‑market profits, resulting in a loss of ₹10.20 lakh.

The Dahod district police in Gujarat announced the arrest of Shailesh Kumar Mishra, a resident of Fua Ghat in Buxar, Bihar, in connection with a cyber‑fraud case that allegedly duped victims of a total of ₹10.20 lakh. According to the investigation, Mishra used a counterfeit mobile application that claimed to generate high returns from the share market, enticing users with promises of quick profit.

Authorities say the scheme targeted individuals seeking easy gains in the stock market, convincing them to deposit money into the bogus app. Once the funds were transferred, the app ceased to function, and the perpetrators disappeared with the money.

The police recovered preliminary evidence from the suspect's devices and are tracing the flow of the stolen amount. Mishra is currently in custody and will face charges under the Information Technology Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to cheating and fraud.

The case highlights the growing menace of online investment scams in India and underscores the need for heightened public awareness about verifying financial platforms before investing.
