The Gujarat government has unified police, fire, ambulance and other emergency response agencies under the single toll‑free number 112, making it the first state in India to do so.
Gujarat has taken a historic step by bringing all its emergency response agencies—police, fire, ambulance and disaster relief—under the single toll‑free number 112. The move positions the state as the first in India to offer a unified emergency contact point for citizens.
Under the new system, calls to 112 are automatically routed to the appropriate department based on the nature of the request, eliminating the need for callers to remember multiple numbers such as 100 for police, 101 for fire and 102 for ambulance. The integration is expected to cut response times and streamline coordination among agencies.
The state government has set up dedicated call‑centres equipped with modern dispatch software and has begun training personnel to handle the consolidated workflow. Public awareness campaigns are also being rolled out to inform residents about the new number and its benefits.
