The central government has shortened the tender validity period from 120 to 90 days, aiming to speed up Roads and Bridges (R&B) projects and enhance officials’ accountability.

The central government announced a revision of tender procedures, cutting the standard validity period for R&B project tenders from 120 days to 90 days. The amendment applies to all forthcoming tenders related to roads and bridges across the country.

Officials explained that the shorter validity window is intended to eliminate prolonged waiting periods that often delay the commencement of infrastructure work. By tightening the timeline, the government expects contractors to respond more promptly and projects to move to execution faster.

In addition to the time reduction, the new directive ties the performance of senior officials to the adherence of these timelines, making them directly accountable for any undue delays. Monitoring mechanisms will be strengthened to ensure compliance.

The policy shift is part of a broader effort to accelerate the nation’s infrastructure agenda and reduce cost overruns associated with prolonged tender cycles.
