The government has directed telecom operators to display the official name of callers on smartphones starting November 1, aiming to reduce cyber scams and nuisance calls.

The government has issued a new directive requiring telecom operators to implement mandatory Caller Name (CN) display on users' phones from November 1. The move is intended to break the cycle of cyber fraud and harassment caused by unknown calls.

Under the order, the official name of the caller will be shown on the recipient's device whenever a call is received, helping users identify legitimate callers and avoid deceptive practices.

The directive comes amid rising concerns over phishing and fraudulent calls that target telecom users across the country. Operators have been instructed to ensure the feature is active across all networks by the stipulated date.

The government has warned that failure to comply could result in penalties, while consumer groups have welcomed the step as a means to protect the public from financial loss and improve trust in telecom services.

Implementation will begin on November 1, with a transition period for operators to update their systems. Users are advised to keep their devices updated to benefit from the new Caller Name display feature.
