The central government announced an increase in the windfall tax on diesel by ₹3 per litre and on aviation turbine fuel by 50 paise per litre.
New Delhi – The Union government has raised the windfall tax on diesel by three rupees per litre and on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by fifty paise per litre. The adjustment was disclosed in an official statement released earlier this week.
The windfall tax is a levy imposed on petroleum products when their market price exceeds a predetermined threshold, allowing the government to capture excess profits and curb price volatility.
Analysts expect the higher levy to be reflected in retail fuel prices, which could increase operating costs for transport operators and airlines. The move comes as part of broader fiscal measures aimed at stabilising government revenues.
The increase was reported by Business Standard, which cited the government's announcement without providing an implementation date.
