Taekwondo athletes Bhavani Singh and Riya Singh from Gopalganj have been named to India’s squad for the 2026 World Poomsae Championship in Chuncheon, South Korea, with the Bihar government promising a ₹2 lakh grant to each.
Two young taekwondo practitioners from Gopalganj, Bhavani Singh and Riya Singh, have secured places in the Indian contingent for the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2026. The event is scheduled to take place in Chuncheon, South Korea, later this year.
Both athletes will represent India in the poomsae (forms) category, marking a significant milestone for the small town in Bihar. Their selection follows a series of national-level qualifiers where they outperformed peers from across the country.
The Bihar government has announced a financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for each athlete to support training, equipment, and travel expenses. Officials said the funding aims to ensure the athletes can focus on preparation without financial constraints.
