Gopalganj police officials took decisive action on Monday after a probe confirmed that Sub‑Inspector Sandeep Kumar, the Upper Thana Head, demanded a bribe of three thousand rupees from a passport applicant. The allegation surfaced when the applicant reported the demand to the local police station, prompting an internal inquiry.
The investigation, led by Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari, examined the applicant's complaint, reviewed cash transaction records and interviewed witnesses. Findings indicated that Kumar had repeatedly asked for the money in exchange for fast‑tracking the passport verification process.
Based on the verified evidence, SP Tiwari ordered the immediate suspension of Sandeep Kumar, effective from the time of the decision. The officer has been relieved of his duties pending further disciplinary proceedings under the Bihar Police Service Rules.
