Gonda district police announced the suspension of a senior inspector and a verification‑room operator after a clerical error incorrectly associated a citizen’s name with a known criminal in an official verification report. The disciplinary action was taken under the department’s internal regulations for procedural lapses.
The mistake arose from an automated name‑matching system that flagged a similarity between the subject’s name and that of a convicted offender. Subsequent manual review failed to catch the discrepancy, resulting in the wrongful linkage being recorded in the police database.
